Kamal Haasan declared his plans to release his latest outing Vishwaroopam on DTH, eight hours prior to the theatrical release. About Rs 1000 will be charged per DTH connection for viewing Vishwaroopam and it will be single viewing. Due to the encryption, makers were confident that pirates willn't be able to record it. "This move helps the producers new revenue stream. In fact, Telecasting a film on DTH will serve as a teaser to attract more audiences to cinemas. DTH release will only strengthen business," clarified Kamal.
Claiming that only 3 percent of the existing population in Tamilnadu have access to DTH, Kamal came up with a proposal of simultaneous TV and Theatrical release. However, the theaters owner association turned down it outright as the main concern for them is the fear of decline in theatrical collections. DTH screening will attack all the members of family, neighbors etc., and the possibility of audience watching it at public places, hotels and clubs is high.
Seems like our Big Heroes TV troubles have not ended up yet. Let us see how this legendary actor overcomes all these destractions and show a new path for the producers to recover the investment!
