Ram Charan sets new Record

With just 5 films old, Ram Charan is making his contemporaries stand on their toes all the time. This young hero has set a new record with the Hindi satellite rights of Naayak. The amount (Rs 3.5 crore) offered for this Pongal release is never heard for any dubbed Telugu flick. Second in the chart is Mahesh-Venky starrer SVSC with a whopping Rs 3 crore. Although Makkhi (Eega in Telugu) was traded for Rs 8 crore, it can be treated as a straight film because of the theatrical release of the Hindi version.

The Hindi satellite rights have been like a big boon to the Tollywood filmmakers. Competition between the 80-odd channels, necessity to fill a particular time slot with movies and the fact that recent remakes of Telugu films entered into the Rs 100 crore club came as a blessing in disguise for the Telugu Film Industry. All the mainstream Telugu films released in the year 2012 got benefited as they were traded for nearly Rs 2.5 crores and the films like Businessman, CGR, Racha, Dammu and Rebel were in the list.

The reason for Hindi channels showing keen interest in Telugu films is the fact that the satellite rights of a Bollywood mainstream film costs anywhere between Rs 35 - Rs 50 crore, whereas for a Tollywood flick it's just Rs 1 - 3.5 crore and they can easily earn profits with a wider viewership. This is a welcome change for T-town!
