This Friday's big-ticket releases-'Kadali' and 'Ongole Githa'- are finally made it to theatres and their results and reviews are out. Here is our piece on the films by drawing comparisons among them.
India's most sought-after director Mani Ratnam is back after three years with 'Kadali' ('Kadal' in Tamil) while his last outing was 'Raavan' which tanked at the box-office. At the same time 'Bommarillu Bhaskar' (who has carved a niche for making sensible films like 'Bommarillu', 'Parugu' and 'Orange') whose last venture 'Orange' was released 3 years ago and it failed to make a mark on audiences. So both are top directors and both have took a gap for 3 years and films of both were bombed.
And interestingly, their films- 'Kadali' and 'Ongole Githa'- are released on same day i.e. on Feb 1, 2013 (Friday). So of course, comparisons will be drawn for both the top directors. Telugu audiences have huge expectations on both these films considering both are sensible directors. And interestingly, the result of both the films is similar. Surprisingly, both films have opened to divide talk failing to meet the expectations of audiences. This is certainly Jhalak for Telugu audiences. Many audiences who have watched the films express their anguish and say these are not the best offerings from top notch directors of film industry!
